Summary

Drive — the Android app and the web app — is free, has no user accounts, no ads, and no analytics or tracking. We do not collect, store, sell, or share personal data. Your location is used on your device to warn you about cameras ahead and is never transmitted to us.

Location

The app uses your device GPS location (on Android, including in the background, so it can alert you while driving with the screen off) solely to compute the distance to nearby speed cameras on your device. This location data stays on the device; it is not sent to our servers or any third party.

Web app

Drive also runs as a web app in your browser at /app. It asks for your browser's location permission and uses that location only on your device to compute distances to nearby cameras — the same as the Android app, and equally never sent to us. The web app stores only your display preferences in your browser's local storage; it sets no cookies and runs no analytics.

Camera, fuel & traffic data

The app downloads public datasets (camera locations, fuel prices, traffic incidents, map tiles) from our server. These are ordinary web requests; like any web service they may appear transiently in standard edge logs (e.g. IP address) for security and reliability. We do not use this to identify or profile you, and the requests contain no personal information or your location.

Diagnostic & problem reports

If you choose to send a problem report or suggestion (from the app's settings, by text or voice), we attach the last ~10 minutes of driving context so we can reproduce and fix the issue: GPS positions, speeds and headings, the nearby cameras the app saw, and what it announced — plus your app version, the dataset version, your device model, and (only if you record one) a short voice clip. No account, name or identifier is attached. We process this under our legitimate interest to keep the app accurate and safe, and we delete each report once the error is fixed (and in any case within 30 days). It is never shared with third parties.

Community reports — anonymous and verified

If you report something on the road (a mobile radar, a hazard), the report is 100% anonymous: it carries only the position and type — no account, no name, no device identifier, and nothing that links your reports to each other. We verify reports by corroboration (other drivers confirming them) and plausibility, never by who you are; unconfirmed reports expire automatically.

Optional features that use Google

Two conveniences are off by default and clearly labeled in the app's settings, because enabling them involves Google (not us): push notifications (delivered by Firebase Cloud Messaging — Google sees a device token; we only publish to anonymous per-province topics and never see your token or location) and navigating with Google Maps (which opens the Google Maps app under its own privacy policy). With both disabled, Drive involves no Google services at all.

Permissions

  • Location (precise; background on Android) — proximity alerts while driving.
  • Notifications (Android) — the ongoing "driving" notification and alerts.
  • Microphone (optional) — only if you record a voice problem report.
  • Internet — to download the camera, fuel and traffic datasets and map tiles.
  • Display over other apps (optional) — only if you enable the floating speed/radar bubble shown over your navigation app.

Map & data attribution

The optional map is rendered from © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL), packaged with Protomaps and displayed with MapLibre. Camera data comes from DGT, Catalonia (SCT) and OpenStreetMap; fuel prices from Spain's MITECO; traffic incidents from DGT.
